Information About My Work

Holga Prints

My Holga images are made completely in-camera, and prints are not altered via photoshop or darkroom, aside from basic burning, dodging, and exposure / contrast adjustment for an optimal image. What you see in the print is what appears on the original negative.

I personally print and selenium tone all of my Holga images, and all are printed contact-sized in editions of 10.  While each print in the edition is made from the same negative, slight variances can occur from print to print due to hand processing, making each image unique.  The finished images are titled, signed, dated, and numbered in pencil on the back of the print.  All materials used to process, mat, and present the work are of archival quality for longevity of the print.

Gelatin Relief Prints

The technique of Gelatin Relief (also known as Silver Gelatin Mordançage) is a relatively new process in the grand scheme of photography. Though this process can be considered alternative, it is based on the fundamentals of black and white printmaking.

To implement the process, a regular silver gelatin print is bleached in an acidic / corrosive solution, and is then washed and redeveloped in a variety of developers and / or toners. During the bleaching process, the black areas of the print lift, forming veils, which can be wiped away or incorporated into the design at hand. Color of the finished print depends on many factors, including the redeveloping solution and oxidation rate of the print.

While it is possible to replicate a primary design, no two Gelatin Relief prints are exactly alike. Because the process involves too many variables that alter the final outcome of the print, each is a unique, one of a kind piece of art.
